Kat Vet’s mission is to promote and provide affordable veterinary resources to enhance the lives of Tangipahoa Parish residents and beyond, while enriching the human-animal bond through rescue, fostering, and adoption of pets.
Kat Vet was founded by Dr. Kathleen Elstrott (aka Dr. Kat) as a way to offer low cost spaying and neutering to residents of Tangipahoa, Livingston, and St. Helena parishes in order to help reduce the overpopulation of unwanted cats and dogs. Operating since 2019, Kat Vet now has a physical presence in downtown Ponchatoula, Louisiana where pet parents can schedule appointments to bring their cats, dogs, and rabbits for economical spaying and neutering.
The majority of our pets available for adoption have been transferred from over-crowded parish run shelters in the southeast Louisiana region.
Kat Vet truly believes that the most effective and proven method to decrease the numbers of stray animals in southeast Louisiana is to spay and neuter your pets.
The next step to eradicating countless strays in our area is to promote adoption. Dr. Kat says, “Until we are no longer euthanizing countless innocent cats and dogs in our area, no one should purchase or breed a dog or cat.” Whether you live in Ponchatoula, Covington, Mandeville, or even the New Orleans area, those seeking to adopt kittens or puppies or adult cats and dogs can check out available pets by visiting the adoption section of our website.
If you are not in the position to adopt, fostering is a very rewarding experience! Kat Vet will provide all the supplies and veterinary care - you just provide the love until the animal finds their fur-ever home.
Please search our website for details about our policies and procedures for spaying and neutering, adopting, or fostering. All of our services are available by appointment only. You can contact us by texting 985-401-2537 or emailing spayneuter@katvet.org, and we will reply as soon as possible.
